Exploring AI in Year 6: A Fascinating Workshop
Year 6 students delved into the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a captivating workshop. Beginning with the evolution of computing power, they learned how AI tackles complex tasks beyond traditional rules-based algorithms. Using a Raspberry Pi and camera, they embraced Machine Learning (ML), teaching computers to discern between various images.
As aspiring AI engineers, they navigated challenges like background interference and understanding AI limitations. From Netflix recommendations to autonomous vehicles, they explored AI's practical applications in daily life and its potential impact on future careers.
The workshop sparked debates on AI's creativity versus human ingenuity, emphasizing the unique strengths of both. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students gained insight into AI's capabilities and its dynamic relationship with humanity.
Of course as a year group, we had to round off the workshops by using my notes from the session to feed into AI to generate this article! We were very pleased with the results that gave a surprisingly accurate account of the experience…..but here are a few quotes from real humans!
“We loved the experience of training the AI with the engineer and I am sure we will use these skills in the future.”
“I loved how the session was so interactive and how we learnt so much about machine learning in such a fun way!”
“On one task we got to pick a person, a style, a food and a background and then AI generated random pictures of what you had asked for. The AI on one of the groups made Taylor Swift have 3 legs by accident! It is not always so easy to tell which photos are real and which are AI generated. I learnt a lot!”
